Frequently Asked Questions

When can I rent the car?

You can start anytime during the day between 9:30 and 5:30, and return times can be as late as 10PM

Do you have any age requirements?

Minimum age is 25 to rent the car, or 21 to drive the car with a driver over the age of 25.

Do you have any insurance requirements?

If you have a US drive’s license and insurance you’re covered under your own incidental policy. Additional insurance can be purchased for $100 but can take several hours to process.

Do you accept international drivers?

Drivers coming from outside of Canada or the US must buy additional insurance for $100, and it takes up to 24 hours to process. Please book in advance if you’re coming from outside the US.

Do I need to take a specific route to enjoy the tour?

The best way to experience the tour is to follow the route we normally suggest for anyone borrowing one of our classics, but it will also work if you take your own path. The tour guide kicks in automatically whenever you approach a point of interest so you’re not locked into a specific route.

Do I need cell service for the tour to work?

Nope! The tour can be downloaded before your trip starts and will work even when you’re in the middle of Big Sur’s cellphone dead zone.

How long is the tour?

Since the tour activates when you reach certain points, you get to move at your own pace. If you wanted to explore our entire rental range you’d want a whole-day rental, but with a four-hour rental, you can still experience many of the points the tour narrates. Access to the tour never expires so you can still get the narration if you re-visit the area.

How does the audio tour work?

When you purchase a tour we’ll send you a link to download the app and a code to unlock the tour. Fire it up when you’re ready for your trip and the app does the rest. Speakers are available upon request if you prefer to not use the speakers in your rental car.

What happens if it rains?

We’re lucky enough to have great driving weather here on the Monterey Peninsula so most of the year it’s not a problem. If there is rain forecast we can reschedule or refund your rental, just be sure to contact us before the start of your rental.
